Valentine’s Day 2013

First off, had to be at work (Frosted Cupcakes) at 6am!  This is my first bakery Valentine’s Day, hectic but great.  My day started out with one of my downstairs tenants parking behind me in MY driveway, not their driveway!  Luckily I had enough room to back up a little so I just drove ON THE LAWN!  I stopped at Starbucks on the way to work and treated myself to a Soy Caramel Macchiato.  At work I started bangin’ out cupcakes; around 537 cupcakes.  We also had so many pre-orders and deliveries.  Our menu was:
Double Trouble
Black & White
Red Velvet
Creme Brulee
White Chocolate
Salted Caramel
Chocolate Raspberry
Carrot Cake
Peanut Butter
Cake Pops
Bittersweet Chocolate Truffles rolled in Cocoa Powder or Pistachios
Mini Cheesecakes
Sold balloons from Up company
On my lunch break I took myself to Graze and got grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup.  Along with that I read Madeline’s book The Glass Castle.  On my way home from work I went to Coffee Cravings and got an Iced Americano.  When I got home Martha gave me a Valentine’s day bag with my favorite thing inside, Patisserie macaroons!!!  In the evening I went to Frog Hollow so Dad ordered a Papa Murphy’s heart pizza.  Good day & got to work with my favorite co-worker who quit last October, Madeline!

School, French

I’ve been going to culinary school from August 2011 to April 2012 and my internship will end May 2012 which means COURTNEY GRADUATES.  Culinary school was great!  Saucemaking, soups (my favorite), butchery (fun) of fish, rabbit, cow, pork; plate presentation, baking and pastry with cakes and breads, breadmaking was my favorite; international cooking with miso soup, noodles, lots and lots of meat, soups and grains.  I found out I love working on the WOK!  Very fun, very fast!!!

After my internship here, I leave for another internship in South Carolina for the summer at Seabrook Island.  Soak up that humid sun.  I hope to do some travel writing about my experiences!

I most recently want to study abroad in France to move there and learn French.  Experiencing a new culture and food is fascinating because there is so much to learn.  It is perfect for me because traveling and culinary are my two favorite things!  I’ve been wanting to study abroad and learning a new language is a goal of mine and the restaurant owner in Folsom, CA, Chez Daniel inspired me.  I went to talk with him about staging with him before I left for South Carolina so we sat down while he ate his lunch and drank red wine.  We talked about places to work, the Cordon Bleu, and traveling.  He said to always go for the best.

19th Birthday weekend.

Starts Friday June 24th, 2011
Started with chores today: vacuumed, washed my car, mowed the lawn, and decorated the house for my birthday.  I then made my birthday cake; Strawberry Summer Cake.  Basically yellow cake with strawberries on top.  Tonight I hung out with Aunt Diana in Auburn; we went to a Thai restaurant then saw the movie, Bad Teacher.  Boy was it funny!!!!

Saturday 25th
MY BIRTHDAY TODAY, AGE 19!!!  This morning I opened my presents over skype.  Some things I got were money, San Pellegrino water, Kind bars, fancy Bath and Body works soap, magnets from LA, flower seeds.  Then off to Starbucks where I got a cappuccino and a fruit, nut, & cheese platter.  After, I went to Lodi to hang out with Karen; we went to Stockton for lunch at Mimi’s then went shopping.  At Dillard’s, she bought me a mug that says “This is where the magic happens.”  (The picture was of a messy kitchen.)  Then onto Macy’s where I got comfy tan capri’s.  On the way home, we stopped at Karen’s niece’s house.  It was so great!  After I drove home, I ate my cake and opened more presents from mom and dad on skype.  At 9p I picked up Meghan from the Roseville Galleria from work.  She spent the night because we have an early day tomorrow!

Sunday 26th
LAKE TAHOE TRIP TODAY!  We left around 8a and first headed for Starbucks.  We both had a free drink so I got a skinny vanilla iced latte.  What was cool was they put our names on our cups.  Now off to Tahoe!  We got there a bit early for lunch so we just walked around in Tahoe City looking at all the little shops.  Now the lunch I’ve been waiting for!  Fat Cat’s Café: I had Fat Cat Mac & Sweet Potato Fries with zesty cilantro dipping sauce!  It was amazing!  After, we started driving around the whole lake.  We stopped at every beach but almost every one had a parking fee and some were crowded!  We found 1 “beach” near Sunnyside (California) that was free.  We also did stop a lot to take pictures.  I even let Meghan drive a bit!  On the way home we filled up for gas and Starbucks.  It was a great day of beauty and driving!!!!!

Start my birthday.

Since I got this new job, I can’t go to Walla Walla anymore next week where my parents are.  So Maca and Paca are going on Monday for 10 days.  I get to have the whole house to myself.  This unfortunately means I’ll be here alone for my birthday on June 25th.  So for an extra treat for me, they took me out to a birthday breakfast this morning; Karen’s Bakery.  My favorite bakery in Folsom!  As well as their delicious flaky pastries, they serve breakfast.  I ordered: the Sunny Side up Tart (a puff pastry tart with gruyere cheese and creme fraiche, bacon, and a sunny side up egg, and fresh chives), which was also served up with fresh fruit.  The tart was good but the fruit salad is the best fruit salad I’ve ever had (better than Sterlings)!  Along on the side I ordered a cappuccino.  We got to sit outside on their patio; so nice with the flowers and great temperature.  Did I mention we went at 8 am?

Well I finally got a job, but it really hasn’t been that long; only 1 1/2 months since I moved to California.  I’m going to be an insurance agent; life agent & accident and health agent at Bankers Life & Casualty Roseville branch.  I started last Monday, June 6th.   So this past week and next week is all training on an internet program to pass the CA state insurance license exam!  It’s very long and you’re sitting for lengths at a time; a normal 8a-5p job.

The interview process was a bit different.  They called a bunch of people in and we all sat in a conference room and they did a presentation about the company; like you were interviewing the company.  Then if you were still interested, you came back the next day for a power point presentation and interview.  So I went to both of those seminars and the next day, I got a call saying I got the job (along with 2 other people) on June 3rd.  I guess they are hiring 15 people over 4-5 weeks.
